Caryn & Courtney Stalter's PledgePage
Dear Friends:
Picture this: It's early on a Saturday morning. It’s been a long week, but instead of sleeping in on Saturday morning, you get out of bed, get dressed and proceed to go wake up your 17 year old daughter. Why are you both getting out of bed early on a Saturday morning when you could be sleeping? Because you’ve both committed to run/walk a marathon in January, which means lots of physically taxing training runs. It’s something neither of you ever thought you’d be doing, let alone doing together. Now picture something different: It’s early on Saturday morning. It’s been a long week, but instead of sleeping in on Saturday morning, you get out of bed, get dressed and go wake up your 25 year old son. Why are you both getting out of bed so early on a Saturday morning when you could be sleeping? Because about a week after you were diagnosed with lung cancer, your 25 year old son was diagnosed with Nodular Lymphocite Predominant Hodgkin's Disease, which means a lot of physically taxing treatments for both of you. It’s something neither of you ever thought you’d be doing, let alone doing together. The first scenario is what Courtney and I have pledged to do over the next four months – run/walk the Disney Half Marathon on January 11, 2004 as part of Team in Training. Team in Training will provide us with world class coaching, transportation, lodging and race fees. In exchange we have pledged to raise $6600 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The second scenario represents what a local father and son have been going through for the past few months. Their names are Rev. Steve Steele (the father) and Louis Steele (the son). Every Team in Training Team Member runs in honor of a local patient. Courtney and I will be running in honor of Louis Steele (and “unofficially” his dad, Steve). Courtney and I will handle the training part of our pledge, but we need your help with the fundraising part of our pledge. Can we count on you to commit your monetary support—no matter how small or large—to help us reach our goal? Every five minutes (almost 300 people a day), someone in the United States is diagnosed with a blood-related cancer. Every nine minutes, someone dies from one. With your help, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society can fund the continuing research required to slash these numbers in half . . . and in half again . . . and in half again. To learn how to make a 100% tax-deductible donation, click the donations tab to the left. And remember: All donations, no matter the size, make a difference.
